The Breakfast Club

Oatmeal full body

Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day. And now that we’re seeing some pretty cool temperatures in Northern California I can indulge in hot cereals like malt-o-meal, grits, and oatmeal porridge.

It’s this type of morning comfort food that inspired me to wear my oatmeal colored V-neck sweater today. This winter essential is the fashion equivalent to a warm bowl of oatmeal. It’s super soft, comfy, and cozy. Continue reading

Cali Girls Wear Chucks

chucksIn 1908 Converse were the new kicks on the block. Only 9 years later, the company introduced the most successful selling basketball shoe in history, the Converse All-Stars. But it wasn’t until 1932 that these classic shoes adorned the name and signature of former basketball player Charles “Chuck” Taylor.  Since then, I don’t think a decade has gone by without Chucks making their mark on American history. Like in 1962 when basketball player Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks while wearing a pair of Chuck Taylors. Or when the character, Sho’nuff from the movie The Last Dragon (1985) says his infamous line, “Kiss my Converse.” And as we quickly approach 2015, Chuck Taylors continues to be a shoe of choice.  Continue reading

Holiday Cheer

plaid skirt With a last name like Frost it’s no wonder I’m all about the Christmas season. I love the time spent with family, the sparking lights, and the jello and rompope! And now that December is well underway, it’s holiday cheer that inspired today’s Claus worthy outfit. This festive red pencil skirt is ideal for winter holidays. It’s midi length adds warmth without looking like a bulky winter piece. Continue reading

Say It Loud

tortoise

I have to admit, I am a sucker for a statement necklace. It’s one accessory that can really make an outfit. Lately, I’ve been eyeballing tortoise style necklaces. But I haven’t been willing to pay $58 for one from Bauble Bar.  Luckily, I saw this one on sale for $19.99 at ILY. I ordered it immediately!

When it arrived it was much larger than I expected. I felt like this statement necklace might be saying too much. So it sat in my jewelry box all summer. Yet, when I looked at the necklace today I thought,” What’s the point of a statement necklace if it doesn’t make a statement? Might as well say it loud!” Continue reading

Taboo Shmaboo

stripes and dots

Who creates fashion taboos? And why are we often so willing to subscribe to them?  No white pants after labor day, no stripes with polka dots, no mixing black and brown… Over time, some of these fashion taboos have become the biggest fashion trends. That’s why the older I get, the more willing I am to throw caution to the wind. Especially when it comes to my fashion choices. In fact, if today’s outfit could talk, it would say, “taboo shmaboo!” 😛 Continue reading

Printed

corduroy

For some reason other than stripes and polka dots I own very few printed shirts. When I see other people wearing them they look so cute and versatile. But when I see printed shirts in the store they never look quite as appealing. Does that ever happen to you? You pass over something in the store that you just couldn’t imagine yourself wearing. Then you see the same style on someone else and it looks fantastic. Well this time I decided to buy it. Continue reading

Jimi Rigged

From as far back as I can remember I have been a music junkie.  And for a moment during high school I was all about Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. So when I saw this graphic T immortalizing Jimi I fell in love! So much so, that I drove 25 minutes to a neighboring city just to buy it. (I think I spent more in gas driving to the store than I spent on the shirt. LOL.) Continue reading

Pumpkin Spice

Pumpkin spice

This incalescent weather may be protesting fall’s arrival, but coffee drinks and pastry shops beg to differs. For lattes and muffins adorn the telltale sign that fall is officially here. “What is that sign?” you might ask. Why, pumpkin spice, of course. 🙂  I figured I’d follow suit by wearing my pumpkin colored peep-toe booties to spice up today’s outfit. Continue reading
