Cali Girls Wear Chucks

chucksIn 1908 Converse were the new kicks on the block. Only 9 years later, the company introduced the most successful selling basketball shoe in history, the Converse All-Stars. But it wasn’t until 1932 that these classic shoes adorned the name and signature of former basketball player Charles “Chuck” Taylor.  Since then, I don’t think a decade has gone by without Chucks making their mark on American history. Like in 1962 when basketball player Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks while wearing a pair of Chuck Taylors. Or when the character, Sho’nuff from the movie The Last Dragon (1985) says his infamous line, “Kiss my Converse.” And as we quickly approach 2015, Chuck Taylors continues to be a shoe of choice. Chuck Taylors are the epitome of androgyny. Worn by men and women alike. So when I saw this particular pair that I’m wearing today, I just had to have them! The idea of traditional men’s basketball shoe in this lovely bubble-gum purple creates such a fun contrast for me. To play up that contrast, I wore my pastel plaid button up with boyfriend jeans that I cuffed at the bottom to ensure my Chucks were in full view. To finish the look, I chose a slouchy knit hat. How do you wear your Chucks?
